winter film ii (the country)

one of my resolutions lately
has been to spend more time
shooting film:
it's a game of patience.

my point-and-shoot allows for multiple exposures, which explains the bizarre colours and textures of these photographs. while i don't think i'd want to layer places and moments in such depth all of the time, i do enjoy these free-form, otherworldly effects. shards of lake ice kaleidoscoping in the second photograph, the sharp lace doilies and cloud of roses in the sixth. these were taken in january and february, at my friend sarah's cottage near bancroft and during one of the last weekends at dad's house on loborough lake.

august 2012

reclaiming space, reclaiming the light.

in 2012, i took a lot of pictures with my iphone.
i've stopped using instagram in favour of more dedicated cameras,
but what follows are some favourites from last year.

the northwest territories, august 2012

most of these were taken from out the
windows of float-planes or the tops of mountains.

in the last photograph, where the river begins,
'the cirque of the unclimbables.'

hello and happy 2012!

i've been living and studying in small-town ontario,
and have sorely neglected this blog for the past few months.

it's been more difficult finding moments to photograph familiar things
than the ease of doing so when i'm travelling. but watch this space.
